Al Stotts Burnett, age 85, a resident of Charleston, slipped away quietly in his sleep the morning of January 3, 2016 at Missouri Veterans Home – Cape Girardeau.
He was born September 25, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of the late Peter Stotts and Helen Bryant Burnett. Al Stotts was baptized in the Methodist Church in Charleston, a graduate of Charleston High School and attended University of Missouri majoring in agriculture. He served with the U. S. Air Force during Korean Conflict.
His chosen career was farming. Cotton farming was special to him and allowing his children to romp in the trailers of fluffy white cotton. The families on his farms were dear to him. He provided food for them and his family through butchering of hogs, and also chickens during proper times. Al also raised cattle.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who relished hunting and golf. During his younger years he was an active member of Charleston Lions Club. He delighted in being a part of the yearly minstrel and served as president during horse show events held on the football field behind the old high school. Al was friendly, generous, and kind hearted and would truly give you the shirt right off his back.
He liked being with people. He loved God and took pride in his family and enjoyed watching his children grow up.
On October 11, 1952 Al Stotts was united in marriage to Mildred Irene Reeves of Charleston, who survives.
Surviving also are one son Gary Stuart Burnett of Charleston, two daughters; Julie Ann Burnett Wheland and son-in-law Charles Windsor Wheland, Jr., of Oranges Beach Alabama, and Helen Lee Burnett Hicks of Charleston, three grandsons; Charles Windsor Wheland, III, of Chattanooga Tennessee, Gary Stotts and his wife Amanda Eftink Burnett of Sikeston, and Stephen Marshall and his wife Sarah Cain Hicks, Jr., and great grandson Stephen Marshall Hicks, III., of Charleston.
He was preceded in death by son Al Stotts Burnett, Jr. sister: Alice Lee Burnett Fox.
