ALBERTA MORGAN BISHOP

Alberta May Morgan Bishop, born October 12, 1934, near East Prairie, Missouri, daughter of the late Albert "Doc" and Thelma White Morgan, passed away on Saturday, October 23, at 12:28 p.m., at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, at the age of 87.
On September 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to James Lee "Jim" Bishop, and except for two years in St. Louis, she had lived her entire married life in the Dogwood Community.
To their union were born two daughters: Debbie Lynn (Rick) Cobb of Ellenwood, Georgia, and Susan Jama (Stan) Hubbard of East Prairie.
Mrs. Bishop was also survived by five grandchildren: Andrew (Julie) Ambrose of the Dogwood Community; Charissa Richelle Cobb (Mike) Bader, and James Casey (Liz) Cobb of Hampton, Georgia; Jessica Leigh Hubbard (Richie) Walton and Bryan Lee Hubbard of East Prairie; nine great-grandchildren: Reagan Haleigh, Michael Caleb and Kinley Joycelyn "KiKi" Bader; Addison Reese and Olivia Grace Cobb of Hampton, Georgia; Ryanne Mallie and Elliott "Ellie" Kate Ambrose of the Dogwood Community, and Beckett Ellen and Sutter James Walton of East Prairie.

Also surviving are five sisters: Frances Watson of Delaware, Ohio; Mary Hurt Rowe of Wichita, Kansas; Danielle Cummins of Sylmar, California; Sandy Thresher of East Prairie and Pamela (Leo) Goolsby of Advance; two sisters-in-law, JoEmma Morgan of Mount Juliet, Tennessee and Marilyn Bishop (Wayne) Pruitt of Horn Lake, Mississippi and by many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: William Randolph and Charles Albert "Buck" Morgan.
Mrs. Bishop was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston and was the choir director and an active guild member for many years.
She was a columnist, writing the Dogwood News for the East Prairie Eagle and The Enterprise Courier in Charleston for about 35 years and then, in 1997, she began writing for The Mississippi County Times newspaper in Charleston. When the County Times closed, she continued her column on her Facebook page, Dogwood News by Alberta.

She spent many years of her life compiling books for the Dogwood Cemetery, leaving a genealogical record unequaled for so large a cemetery. She also clipped newspaper items and has an amazing record of county families, plus many volumes on family history, including her own family, The House of Morgan.

The body will lie in state at Concordia Lutheran Church, 836 Park Ave., in Sikeston, where friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 25, 2021. The funeral service will be conducted in the church, at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2021. The Rev. Matthew Berry, pastor, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be her sons in law, Rick Cobb and Stan Hubbard and her grandsons, Andrew Ambrose, Bryan Hubbard, Casey Cobb and Richie Walton.

Honorary pallbearer will be Jiggs Moore.
