ALFRED HERBERT MARTIN, Age 94, a resident of rural Charleston, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born December 13, 1919, in the Lusk Chapel Community of Scott County, Missouri, to the late Charles Dunning "C.D." Martin and Clara Belle Brauner Martin, he had lived in Scott County his entire life where he was engaged in farming. He was a member of the Bridges United Methodist Church in rural Charleston.
On May 18, 1940, he married Helen Virginia Presson who preceded him in death on December 12, 2008.
Surviving are three sons, Jerry W. Martin of Bertrand, Michael Gary Martin of Tyler, TX and Donald Lynn Martin of Charleston; one daughter, Brenda Sue Martin of Jackson; one sister, Rosalee Fluegge of Charleston; eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and five great great children; also his beloved golden Labrador retriever, "Lady".
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, C.D. Martin, Jr. and James Martin and by three sisters, Martha Snowden, Addie Linebaugh and Lillie Mae Linebaugh.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014.
Rev. Ted Wimberley, pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church near Charleston, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Martin, Tyler Martin, Jake Martin, Tim Martin, Evan Kolze and Chris Kolze.
