Obituary

Alma Louise Hutcherson Carr, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 4th, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church.

She was born on November 18, 1931, to George W. and Mattie (nee Johnson) Hutcherson in Charleston, Missouri. She was married to the late Vernon A. Carr for 47 years, until his death in 1997. She is survived by grandsons Christopher D. Carr and Michael T. Carr (Lauren), great-grandchildren Declan A. Carr and Maeve A. Carr, daughter-in-law Lynda T. Carr and Megan K. Jungers. Alma also had many nieces and nephews across the country who loved her and are deeply saddened by her death. Also preceding her in death were her son, Gary L. Carr, her grandson Andrew G. Carr, and her three older siblings, George, Henry and Ida Mae.

Alma graduated from Diehlstadt High School, Diehlstadt, MIssouri, followed by several years of nurse's training at St. Mary's Hospital in Cairo, IL.  After she and Vernon married, they moved to St. Louis where he became a 40+ year employee of McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing. Alma matched that with her own 40+ year career at Picker International radiology company. They loved to travel with Gary, particularly out West to Montana and Arizona. Alma enjoyed people--nearly everyone she met became a friend, and she had many! She was devoted to her church, St. Ferdinand in Florissant, and she and Vernon were parishioners when the new church was built in 1954. They helped create the famous St. Ferdinand Fish Fry. She also spent many hours welcoming worshippers to the Chapel for quiet devotion. Alma was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Special thanks to Jack and Joanna Vahey for all their friendship and care.

Visitation at Hutchens Mortuary, Florissant, Missouri, on Friday, August 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a brief funeral service.
