Avis L. Bartlett Muench, 100, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, formerly of Charleston, died Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at her home surrounded by family.
She was born September 15, 1915, in Bethany, Missouri, daughter of Orley W. and Eva M. Bolar Bartlett. Avis taught music and private voice in Texas and then in Northwest Missouri and Southeast Missouri. Many of her voice students won top awards and gave her credit for their successful musical careers. Avis was an active member and organist at several churches, including the Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sikeston for over 30 years and later the St. Paul Episcopal Church in Sikeston. She loved antiques and was a "picker" for several dealers.
In 1936, at Higginsville, MO, she married Carl Julius Muench, who preceded her in death on December 6, 1962.
Avis is survived by two sons, Carl J. (Barbara) Muench, Jr. of Cape Girardeau and Hubert (Jeannie) Muench of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Mary (John) Hartman of Hendersonville, TN. Five grandchildren, Lynda Muench, and Amy (Tim) Gosnell of Sikeston, Patti (Doug) Dobbs of Clarksville, TN, Danny Muench of Hawaii and David Muench of Denver, CO; great grandchildren, Aaron and Meagan Dobbs, and Trey Gosnell.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Vesper and Gladys; daughter-in-law, Marie Greenwood Muench; grandson, Carl "Trey" Muench III; two nieces, Midge and Phyllis
A celebration of Avis's life will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St., Cape Girardeau with The Rev. Edie Bird, Father Bob Towner, and The Rev. Patricia Williams, officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
Burial will be Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston.
