STEPHEN BATES SMOOT, Age 36, a resident of Charleston, died Monday, May 30, 2016, in Charleston.

Born July 7, 1979, at Sikeston, MO, to Walter Raymond "Butch" Smoot who survives of Charleston, and Sandra Lynn Barborek Morrow who survives of Bertrand, he had lived in Charleston most of his life and was a 1997 graduate of Charleston High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston.

On July 25, 2012, he married Melissa Fay Gardiner who survives of Morley.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by one son, Gavin Michael Smoot of Bertrand; one step daughter, Madison Danielle Guzman of Morley; his step-father, Tim Morrow of Bertrand and his step mother, Vicky Smoot of Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Patsy Cherry Smoot and his maternal grandparents, Henry and Nancy Dotson Barborek.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. David Collum, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Private burial will follow.
