Obituary

Bernice Irene Wooten, 98, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at her residence in Sikeston.  She was born September 12, 1918 in Carterville, MO to the late Edward and Etta Jane (Graham) Jackson.  She was married to Rev. Loren Wooten Nov. 19, 1939 in Springfield and he preceded her in death Sept. 14, 2006.  She had worked as a sewing machine operator in a shirt factory, and then served as a pastor's wife and church organist for over 67 years including Praise Assembly (formerly Eastside) in Springfield, Campbell, Kansas City, First Assembly in Sikeston, St. Louis, Terre Haute, Shreveport and Sullivan and was the founder of Women's Aglow in Sikeston.  She had moved back to Sikeston about 5 years ago and was a member of Trinity Gospel Church.  She had also attended Nursing School in St. Louis, became a Nursing Home Administrator and owned a Nursing home for 34 years.  She is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanene & Rev. Gaylon Vinson of Springfield and Judy & Rev. Len Meyers of Sikeston; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 6 sisters.  Visitation will be Saturday, March 11 from 9:30 am until time for services at 11:00 am at Trinity Gospel Church 901 Davis Blvd. in Sikeston.  Her two sons-in-law, Rev. Gaylon Vinson and Rev. Len Meyers will officiate.  She will then be taken to Springfield where visitation will be held Monday, March 13, from 1:00 pm until time for services at 2:00 pm at the Praise Assembly at 3535 N. Glenstone with her sons-in-law officiating again.  Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard Funeral Chapel.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at blanchardfuneral.com.
