Obituary

Betty Ruth Burnes, age 94, died Thursday, May 22, 2025, at her home in Sikeston, MO.

Born April 8, 1931, in the Sugar Tree Community of New Madrid County, MO, to the late Ollie Louie Organ and Mildred Geneva "Skinny" Dabbs Redfering, she had lived in New Madrid County most of her life and had done in home cleaning as well as owned and operated a shoe store for several years.

She was married to Robert Gene Burnes who preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Steven Daniel Burnes, Robert Gene "Bobby" Burnes, Jr. and his wife Tonya all of New Madrid; Brenda Lee King and David Louie Burnes and his wife, Janell, all of Sikeston; her sisters, Patsy Ray and Georgia Reid of East Prairie; 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Jean Clark; her grandchildren, Neecie Clark, Tammy Clark and Ricky Burnes; her great grandchildren, Kyle Phelps, DJ "Pokey" Branam and Finley Burnes and a great great grandson, Jaden Williams as well as her brothers, Louie "Red" Organ, Freddie Organ and Jerry Organ.

Visitation will be from noon until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.  Her great grandson, Chris Williams and Pastor Scott Sutton, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid, MO, under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
