BETTY LOU BISHOP VANPOOL, Age 80, a resident of Sikeston, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born March 5, 1929, at Galatia Village, IL to the late Joe and Beulah Marie Lowery Bishop, Sr., she had lived in Sikeston most of her life where she was employed as a cook and waitress and then as a custodian at the Sikeston Junior High School until her retirement. She was a member of the Sikeston Eagles Club Ladies Auxillary.

On June 15, 1946, she married Wilbur Hershel VanPool, who preceded her in death on November 19, 1993.

Surviving are: One son and daughter in law, Larry Hershel and Carol Dean Northcott VanPool of Jackson, MO; two sisters, Christina Furlow of Christopher, IL and Mary Stalcup of West Frankfort, IL; seven grandchildren, Joyce Sue Staggs West, Patricia Gayle Tyra Penrod, Lee Ann Tyra Gremard, Lawrence Edward Tyra, Edward Lee Tyra, Charles Derek Tyra and Larry Kyle VanPool; twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Two daughters, Ruth Ann VanPool and Carolyn Sue VanPool and four brothers, Joe Bishop, Jr., Burton Eugene Bishop, William Nelson Bishop, Claude Harold Bishop and two sisters, Freda Marie Bishop Wyant and Mildred Louise Bishop Carver, all preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2010 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Pastor Gary Teague, of Rolla, MO, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery at Sikeston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Brandon Penrod, Derek Tyra, Ryan Gremard, Bruce Gremard, Darrian Tyra and Cody Tyra.
