William "Bil" Frank Salyer, age 90, died Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at his home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Bil was born July 23, 1933, at St. Louis, MO, to late Jesse Clinton Salyer and Clara Meyer Salyer and was a United States Army Veteran. He earned his master's degree in music from Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau. Having lived in Poplar Bluff a number of years, Bil taught high school band for thirty-six years at Poplar Bluff High School and was also the Director of the R.S.V.P. Chorus in Poplar Bluff for five years, which he and his wife really enjoyed. Bil was loved by his students.  He loved to travel the world with his son Jeff, and he and his wife traveled forty-eight countries together.

On August 19, 2004, he married Vanette Noisworthy Hensley, who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jeff Salyer of Tainan, Taiwon; his stepchildren, Rick (Karen) Hensley of LaCenter, Ky, Shelly (Bill) Stone of Jackson, MO and Cindy Garland (Daniel Kooyer) of Cape Girardeau, MO;  eight siblings, Danny (Julie) Salyer of Salem, MO, John (Suzanne) Salyer of Cape Girardeau, MO, Tim Salyer, Jayne Riley, Mary (Mike) Garman, Tommy Salyer and David Salyer all of Poplar Bluff, MO and Rose (Darrell) Fears of Pocahontas, AR: nine grandchildren, Ethan Hensley, Jamie Frederick, Jade Beale, Jace Tilford, Christine Dillingham, Trey Stone, Garret Stone, Blake Stone and Josh Stone;  18 great grandchildren;  as well as many nieces, nephews and a number of other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO.
