Obituary

BILLY GARLAND "BILL" GREENWOOD, Age 79, a resident of East Prairie, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston,

Born September 27, 1930 at Cardwell, Missouri to the late Howard Bruce and Mary Lucille Bradley Greenwood, he had lived most of his life in the East Prairie area. A member of the First Christian Church in East Prairie, he had served as a church elder, as a building and grounds supervisor and was active in many social activities involving the church. A self employed truck driver for many years, he retired from Hall Transport and Big Lake Trucking Company and had been employed with the Mississippi County Sheriff Department as a transporter of detainees. He was an avid camper, loved airplanes and aviation, motorcycle riding, the St. Louis Cardinal Ball Games and taking vacations with his family. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.

On December 23, 1950, he married Virginia Wallace, who preceded him in death on December 24, 2006.

Surviving are: two daughters and one son in law, Cindy and Rick Carrell of White House, TN and Tammie Wilkerson of New Madrid; two brothers, Wayne Greenwood of Wood River, IL and Bobby Greenwood of Jackson, MS; one sister, Anna Sue "Susie" Kinsolving of East Prairie; two granddaughters and one grandson in law, Mandy and Todd Johnson of Sedgewickville, MO and Jessie Wilkerson of Columbia, MO. Also a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Two brothers, Weldon Greenwood and Jerry Greenwood and one sister, Olene Greenwood, preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Martin Lucas of East Prairie and Rev. Larry Lane, pastor of the First Christian Church in East Prairie, will officiate.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps and the Missouri Military Honors Program at the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Wayne Thornton, Jay Greenwood, Brad Kinsolving, Darin Kinsolving, Mike Pratt and Don Hastings.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Aaron Wallace, Brent Horton, Chad Wallace, Wallace Hastings, Kenny McClendon, Steve Wright, Kenneth Knupp and Jesse LaBate.
