BILL BRASHERS, JR.
CHARLIE WILLIAM 'BILL' BRASHERS, JR, Age 89, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at his home in Charleston.
Born February 10, 1929, in Mississippi County, MO, to the late Bill Brashers, Sr. and Ruby Hurley Brashers, he had lived in Charleston most of his life and had been employed with Missouri Utilities Company for 36 years until his retirement in June 1983. In 1954, he was part of a vision that helped charter the Southside Baptist Church in Charleston where he was the oldest living original member and had served as a deacon.
On October 6, 1945, he married Genevieve Vernon Williams, who preceded him in death on April 1, 2009.
Surviving are three sons, Bill (Judy) Brashers of Silva; Terry (Carol) Brashers of Nixa and Jasper Brashers of Springfield; two daughters, Gwendolyn (Travis) Watson of Charleston and Genella Rayman of Springfield; one brother, Charlie Brashears of Miner; four sisters, Lucille Hayden, Sue Redding and Rosie Brashears all of St. Louis and Linda Clayton of Pekin, IL; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and a number of foster children and nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Ivaleen Bamper, Carol Thompson, Melba Groves, Beverly McCutchen, Reta Thompson, Jack Brashears and Paula Kay Brashears, a son in law, Ernest Rayman and 3 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2018, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. His son in law, Rev. Travis Watson, and Rev. Steve Johnson, pastor of the Victory Baptist Church in East Prairie, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Bill Evans, Rocky Walker, Al Clarkson, Lowell Nally, Bill Shankle, Harold McClendon and Larry Borders.
