BILLY LLOYD BORDERS, age 85, died Friday, July 12, 2024, at his home in East Prairie.
Born May 20, 1939, at Charleston, MO, to the late George Dewey Borders and Nancy Oscille Fowler Borders, he had lived in Charleston most of his life until 2020, when he moved to East Prairie to be near his daughter. He was a member of the First Church of God in East Prairie.
Billy was no stranger to hard work. One of 10 children, they were taught to work and make a better life for themselves at a young age. For over 22 years years he was employed as a journeyman welder for Associated Electric. He was a member of the Local 53 Electrical Union and the Boilermakers.
In his free time he loved enjoying an ice cream treat and especially working in his yard and flowers.
On November 3, 1972, he married Jackie Beatrice Thurman, who preceded him in death on May 13, 1988. He then shared 28 years with his life companion, Dorothy Caroline Neal Moody, who preceded him in death on August 4, 2019.
Surviving is his daughter and son in law, Jennifer and Duke Presson of East Prairie; his brother, Jim Borders of Paducah, KY; his sisters, Frances Fox and Shirley Rice both of Wichita Falls, TX; his beloved dog, "Jack", his beloved cat, "Ellen"; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, life companion and his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dewey Marshall Borders, Lawrence Eugene "Larry" Borders, Thomas Russell Borders and his sisters, Ella Louise Miller, Rosemary Pirtle and Eunice Hudson.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the First Church of God in East Prairie. Pastor Dawn Walters will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Anniston Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
