Obituary

BILLY G. BROWN, Age 86, a resident of Charleston, died Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born November 15, 1928, at Charleston, to the late John W. and Ida Forsythe Brown, he had lived in Mississippi County his entire life and was a 1946 graduate of Charleston High School. Having farmed for 50 years until his retirement, he served on the A.S.C.S. Committee from 1958 to 1994. Actively involved in his community, he served on the Board of Education for the Charleston R-1 Schools from 1973 to 1990 and was named the 2004 "Man of the Year" by the Charleston Lion's Club. A member of the United Methodist Church in Charleston, he had served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

On June 14, 1946, he married Elba Frances Watkins, who preceded him in death on October 7, 1986.

Surviving are two daughters and sons in law, Ginger and Richard Logan and Jill and Gary Hess all of Charleston; five grandsons, Tripp (Laura) Logan and Ryan (Jessica) Logan all of Charleston; Ivan Hess of Springfield, MO; Lee (Angie) Hess of O'Fallon, MO and Clint Hess of Cape Girardeau, MO; five great grandchildren, Bennett Logan, Amelia Logan, Brown Logan, Jonah Logan and Anna Frances Logan; one sister in law, Evelyn Brown of Cape Girardeau; and his special friend of many years, Martha Ann Keener of Charleston.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 26, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. The Rev. David Collum, pastor, and Rev. Roger Jespersen, of Cape Girardeau, will officiate. His grandson, Tripp Logan, will offer a eulogy.

Pallbearers will be his five grandsons and Michael Moyers.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
