Obituary
IRIS BIRDIE TOON, Age 85, a resident of East Prairie and formerly of Charleston, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born December 26, 1925, at Wyatt, MO, to the late Curtis and Ruth Macko Keen, she had lived in Mississippi County her entire life where she was employed as a cook with the Charleston R-1 School District for 28 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston.
On August 8, 1941, she married Elmer Toon, who preceded her in death on December 14, 1968.
Surviving are: four sons and daughters in law, Bill and Dianne Toon of Edwardsville, IL; Rick and Debbie Toon of White, GA; Anthony and Sheryl Toon of Anniston and James and Shelly Toon of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters and two sons in law, Mary Ruth and Bob Richardson of Platte City; Julia Ann Shaw of Ft. Myers, FL and Jennifer Kay and Darryl Buchanan of Benton, MO; one daughter in law, Atha Toon of Tipp City, OH; one sister, Shirley McCollom of Indianapolis, IN; 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Elmer "Butch" Toon; one infant daughter, Cindy June Toon; one son in law, Gene Shaw; three brothers, Charles Keen, Harold Keen, Bobby Keen; three sisters, June Ashley, Nola Belle Keen and Lois Delk.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2011 at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where prayer services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Sunday evening.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2011 at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston with Father Glenn Eftink, pastor, serving as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Brian Richardson, Jon Shaw, Jason Toon, Chris Toon, Eric Toon, Christopher Toon, Greg Bugg and Chris Krackenberger.
