Leland Robert Maxwell Junior, “Bob”, “Bobby”, and “Daddy”, went to celebrate life with his heavenly father on October 1, 2026, just before his 84th birthday. On this day, Christ freed him from the bonds of Dementia that plagued his earthly journey for several years.
Leland was the oldest son of Ruth Ellen Stancil Maxwell and Leland Robert Maxwell Sr. Born in Cairo Illinois, he spent his youth in Dogwood, Missouri, enjoying farming, horses, and cattle, while developing livestock knowledge that would impact his future.
An Army veteran, Bob is best known for his work with cattle and his ability to train and perform in the Quarter Horse arena. Before being a World Qualifier in 1992 in the Working Cow Horse Division, Bob was a Pro Rodeo Association Calf Roper. He continued with these accomplishments by winning numerous events in Cutting, Working Cow Horse, and Ranch Horse competitions.
In 1962, Bob married Ruthann Powers of East Prairie. Through their sixty-three-year union, Bob and Ruthann raised two daughters: Leanne Grant (Randy) of Sikeston, and Kelly Crabtree of Senatobia, MS. They also shared three grandchildren: Faith Grant of Sikeston, MO, Colt Crabtree (Marley) of Oxford MS, and Denni Grace Crabtree of Senatobia, MS., and one great granddaughter, Emersyn Crabtree.
He is also survived by his brother, Bill Maxwell (Susan), a nephew, Bill Maxwell, Jr, (Heather), a great niece and nephew, many cousins in the area, and special friends throughout the country.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and son in law, Dennis Crabtree.
Bob spent his working years as a cattle broker, livestock owner, and horse trainer. Additionally, throughout his career, he owned and operated livestock auctions in two states and worked with several cattle corporations bearing his name.
Bob's greatest accomplishment was his submission to His Savior's call. Although he was a sinner, he submitted his will and went on to help plant the Finley River Cowboy Church in Highland, MO. Consequently, Bob confirmed there are cowboys in heaven.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston. Pastor Jim Matthews, of Cape County Cowboy Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery at Dogwood, Missouri.
