Obituary

C. Robert Scott was born on July 11. 1933, to C. Clarence and Marguerite A. Scott in Sikeston, MO, and died peacefully at his home in Sikeston, Thursday, September 3, 2020, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Ellen, and sister, Margaret Ann Scott Odom. He is survived by his wife Loleta Scott, a son, Charlie (Kim) Scott, a daughter, Colleen (Michael) Flaker, grandchildren, Tyler (Audrey) Flaker, Britni A. Scott and great-granddaughter, Amelia E. Flaker.

Bob graduated from Sikeston High School in 1951 having lettered in football, (All conference Tackle), basketball and track. He qualified for the US Naval Science Contract program and graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS in Business in 1955 and was Commissioned Ensign in the US Navy. He served two years on active duty on the LST 1161, USS Vernon County stationed in Norfolk, VA.  He then served ten years in the ready reserve program and was Honorably Discharged as LT in 1969.

On November 25, 1955, he married Loleta Airy Carpenter in Hamburg, Iowa. They returned to Sikeston and he joined his family's business, the Scott Insurance Agency Inc. later becoming the Scott-Huff Agency, Inc. He was president and chairman of the board for 46 years until his retirement in 2001.

He was elected to the board of directors of the Missouri Association of Independent Insurance Agents in 1960, and elected President in 1969 – the youngest president in the association's history. He earned the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter designation in 1969, and the Certified Insurance Councilor designation in 1983.

Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 75 years, having served on its board at one time. He served on the Missouri Delta Medical Center Board of Directors for 22 years and as Chairman in 1982 and 1983. He was a member of the Sikeston Lions Club, Sikeston Jaycee's and served with The United Fund.

Bob was also a licensed Private and Commercial pilot and loved to fly.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Aniesha Fowlkes, Tasha Griffin, Pastor Terrance Flenoid, and Legacy Hospice nurses Lisa Holmes and Erin Moore for their loving care.

A private family service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Burial will be at High Creek Cemetery near Hamburg, Iowa.

McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
