Obituary

BOBBYE SCOTT CHAMBERS, age 92, formerly of Charleston, died Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at The Fellowship Home at Brookside, Valdosta, GA.

She was born April 12, 1930 in Pope County, AR to Bleve and Thelma Ruth Morphis Scott. At a young age, her family settled in Southeast Missouri. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Charleston for 60 years and was employed with the Sears company for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Bobbye was involved in the former Charleston Business and Professional Women's Club where she held numerous offices and in 1982 received recognition as Woman of Achievement. She served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors many years assisting in the promotion of the Dogwood Azalea Festival and was instrumental in forming the Charleston Band Boosters and serving as Band Booster President.

On December 21, 1949 she married Billy Lee "Red" Chambers who preceded her in death on August 2, 2014.

Surviving are one daughter, Tracy (Kevin) Willoughby of Valdosta, GA; two daughters in law, Beverly Chambers of Verona, MS and Susan Chambers of Hahira, GA; six grandchildren, Bleve (Jacqueline) Willoughby, Brooke (Jake) Peterman, Ellis Chambers, Sydney (Trey) Davis, Brandy Chambers and Billy Chambers; nine great grandchildren, Thompson, Graham, and Mary Louise Willoughby, Hayes and Drew Peterman, Tracy Ann Chambers, Donna Rhynes, and Abigail Johnson; also several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Rodney and Kevin Chambers; three brothers, Bill Scott, Amos Scott, and Troy Scott; and two sisters, Carletta Dunham and Jeanette Holt.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Hour at 11:00 a.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Martin Lucas, pastor of the First Christian Church in East Prairie, and Joe Mooney, pastor of the First Christian Church in Charleston, officiating. Eulogist will be her grandson, Bleve Willoughby.

Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Danny Ahlfield, Thompson Willoughby, Ellis Chambers, Jake Peterman, David Scott, and Clay Scott.
