Obituary

James Michael Johnson, son of the late James Earnest "Junior" Johnson and Helen Mac (Shannon) Johnson, was born on June 28,1947, in his family home and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on August 8, 2024, at his home in East Prairie.

He graduated from East Prairie High School in May 1965 and married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Faye Johnson, on October 1st of the same year.  "James M", as she affectionately called him, served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970 at Eglin Air Force base in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and then returned home to East Prairie, where he spent the majority of his life.

He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 30+ years of service and served in pastoral ministry for over 20 years at Full Gospel Church.

Mike is survived by their two children, Michelle McGruder (Eric), and Mark Johnson (Rebecca), and five grandchildren, Spencer (Kali), Jacob (Emma), Samuel, Zion, and Emmet.  He is also survived by his mother and his sister, Gwen Johnson Kenedy (David) and niece, Tess. He is additionally survived and dearly loved by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, James (Junior) Johnson.

Throughout his life he enjoyed motorcycles, beagles, rabbit hunting, and building, but Mike considered it the highest honor of his life to preach the Word of God, lead people to Jesus, and pastor Full Gospel Church. In his ministry life, he ministered at hundreds of weddings and funerals and shared over 1,500 sermons. If you encountered him in the store, on the street, or in the church building, the conversation always ended in the same place, talking about Jesus.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Full Gospel Church in East Prairie with public visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. and the service following at 2:00 p.m. with Eric McGruder officiating.

Interment with full military honors will follow at the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
