Burlene Curtis, 89, long-time resident of Matthews, died at her home Thursday, July 25, 2019.  She was born January 1, 1930 in Dover,, Arkansas to the late Charles Burl and Grace (Fowler) Wait.  Burlene was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ,, had been City Clerk for the City of Matthews and a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Curtis Concrete.  On April 26, 1948 she married, Cleatus "Pete" Curtis at Piggott, Arkansas and he survives of the home in Matthews.  Also surviving are 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Robert Curtis of the home and Kenneth & Jamie Curtis of Dexter; 1 daughter and son-in-law Brenda & Jerry Nimmo of Sikeston; 2 brothers, Jim Wait of Hillsboro and Hayes Wait of St. Louis;  and 1 sister, Bonnie Beasley of Grapevine, Texas.  Six Grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-greatgrandchildren also survive.  She was preceded in death by 3 brothers:  Gene Wait, Johnny Wait and Charles Wait; and by 1 sister, Roberta Ring.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 1 at Shady Acres Church of Christ, from 5:00 pm until time for Memorial Service at 6:00 pm.  Keith Olbricht, minister of Shady Acres Church of Christ will officiate.
