Obituary

BYRON L."BARNEY" REEVES, age 82, a resident of Charleston, died on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston, Missouri.

Born January 29, 1929 to the late Oda A. and Mittie Lee Parker Reeves, he had lived in Mississippi County his entire life where he was a landowner and retired farmer. Following his graduation from Charleston High School, he farmed prior to enlisting in the US Air Force in 1950. He served active duty during the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant before his discharge in 1954 when he returned home to resume farming. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston where he served as a deacon, and was a former member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge #407 AF & AM and the SEMO Shrine Clowns.

On April 18, 1954 he married Shirley Jo Bryant who preceded him in death on April 16, 2005.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter in law, Byron L. "Buddy" and Connie Reeves Jr. of Charleston, Jeffory Reeves of Columbia; one daughter and son in law, Melody Rae and Tom Smith of Valencia, CA; one grandson, Byron Lee Reeves III of Charleston; two sisters, Mildred Reeves Burnett and Donna Morgan both of Charleston; his mother in law, Stella Bryant of Charleston; and special friends, Melissa Fowler, Bernice Frazier, and Emma Kent.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Oda Reeves, Marshall Reeves, Frank Reeves, Joseph "Tud" Reeves; and one sister, Frances Goldis.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, will officiate.

The Missouri Military Honor Guard will provide Military Graveside rites. Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
