Obituary

REV. EMITT CALVIN BROWN, age 82, of Morley, died Monday, June 14, 2021, at the Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.

Rev. Brown was born January 17, 1939, at Wyatt, MO, to the late Luther Emitt and Esther Dell Swinney Brown.  He grew up in Mississippi County and worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Charleston over 20 years and the Potlach in Sikeston a number years before retiring from the paint store business.  Rev. Brown was a United Methodist and felt a calling to enter in to ministry completing his studies at St. Paul School of Theology.  Rev. Brown's first appointment as a United Methodist Minister was to the Gravel Hill and Fairview congregations.  He later served at Old Salem and New Salem Churches at Oak Ridge, then at Huntsville and Clifton Hill and retired after serving the congregation at Benton.

On March 21, 1980, he married Barbara Ann Heuring, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are his daughter, Donna Brown (Wendy) Nall of Columbia; stepchildren, Mark (Keri) Freeman of Troy and Tammy Stabb of Bell City; grandchildren, Samuel Nall and Emma Nall, Robert Watkins, Mark Watkins, Kenny Hale, Amanda Adams, Mike Nelson, Tryston Stabb, Aiden Freeman and Myles Freeman; 11 great grandchildren; his sisters, Colleen Johnson of Malta, IL and Shirley Montavon of Dekalb, IL; also, a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Gulley, Fleta Jo Johnson, Suetta Brown, Mary Lieving and Lezona Morehead.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 18, 2021, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.  Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of the Charleston United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Samuel Nall, Mark Freeman, Robert Watkins, Mark Watkins, Nick Heuring and Darrell Heuring.
