Carolyn Ovaline Scoggins Davis, 67, died at 8:52 p.m., Feb. 3, 2011, at her home in Sikeston.
Born April 8, 1943, at Wyatt to the late George B. Scoggins and the late Mary A. Brown Scoggins Todd, she had lived in Wyatt most of her life prior to moving to Sikeston in December 2006, and was a member of The United Methodist Church in Charleston. She was employed from 1977 until the closing, by Todd Grocery, formerly Raffety Store in Wyatt, she was employed by the Charleston VFW Post 4294 as secretary.
She had been a member of the Charleston WBA for 33 years, and the President of the Women's Monday night league from 1981-2010. In addition to bowling, her hobbies included playing bingo, baking, sewing, and taking care of her great-grandchildren which she worshipped. She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 3838 in Cape Girardeau, MO and a member of the Sikeston Elks Lodge #2319.
On December 28, 1960, she married Glenn Edward "Eddie" Davis of Cairo, Ill, who preceded her in death on Jan 21, 2007.
She is survived by: two daughters: Mary Carolyn Davis of the home and M. Karen Davidson and fiance Stephen L. Chamberlain of Miner, and one sister, Margaret A. Sams of West Chicago, Il, two grandchildren, Erin E. Staples and fiance Mike Boese of Sikeston, Caleb R. Davidson, of Miner, and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Staples Merideth and Katie Mary-Caroline Staples of Sikeston. As well as two future grandsons, Nick Chamberlain of Jonesboro, Ark, and Derrik Chamberlain of Miner, and two future great grandchildren, Ashley Boese and Joshua Boese of Sikeston, and special friend Michelle Newton.
She was also preceded in death by, her step-mother Eva Scoggins and her step-father, Edward H. Todd.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where a memorial service by the Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars will be conducted at 7:15 Monday evening. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the McMikle Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Gibson, pastor of the New Covenant Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wyatt, officiating.
Burial will follow in the I.O.O. F Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home..
Pallbearers will be: Caleb Davidson, Nick Chamberlain, Derrik Chamberlain, Joshua Boese , Keith Lossing, and Ben Towe.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Phil Atteberry, Russell Borders, Bill Feezor, Elott Raffety, Leslie Fox, and Sam Oliver of Charleston, Riley Fitzgerald and Wiley Snider of Wyatt and Gerald Rogers, of Sikeston.
