Obituary
CATHERINE ROSE SHOWMAKER, Age 91, a resident of Cape Girardeau, MO, and formerly of Charleston, MO, died Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born October 4, 1922, in the Texas Bend Community of Mississippi County, MO, to the late Henry Bernard and Catherine Ann Bruenderman Duenne, she had lived in Charleston most of her life until moving to Cape Girardeau in 1977 where she was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
On August 29, 1943, she married E.J. Showmaker, who preceded her in death May 6, 1998.
Surviving are five sons, Edward Joseph Showmaker of Anna, IL; Fred (Rosemary) Showmaker and Tom (Teresa) Showmaker all of Charleston; Stephen Paul (Lisa) Showmaker of Cape Girardeau, MO and James Richard "Jim" Showmaker of St. Louis; two daughters, Cathie (Joseph) Stricker of Belleville, IL and Maureen (Ronald) Brown of Edwardsville, IL; 14 grandchildren, Tim Showmaker, Matt (Tammy) Showmaker, Jeanna (Darrell) Muskopf, Danny Showmaker , Chris (Jessica) Stricker, Catie (Jim) Howell, Cari (Brad) McDill, Ryan (Salinya) Brown, Duenne (Michael) Schlarman, E.J. (Christine) Brown, Kurt Showmaker, Claire Showmaker, Hannah Showmaker, and Jason Showmaker and also 18 great grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Charles "Kenny" Showmaker; one daughter in law, Norma Showmaker; three brothers, Henry Duenne, Herman Duenne and DeSales Duenne and by six sisters, Sr. Gertrude Duenne, C.P.P.S., Appolina "Polly" Strack, Marie Ressell, Sr. Bernardine Duenne, C.P.P.S., Rosalia "Rose" Scherer and Monica Dirnberger.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston. Rev. Tom Kiefer, pastor at St. Mary Cathedral, will serve as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, E.J. Brown, Matt Showmaker, Chris Stricker, Ryan Brown, Danny Showmaker, Tim Showmaker, Kurt Showmaker, Jason Showmaker and Chase Showmaker.
