Sonny Cossey

Charles Thomas "Sonny" Cossey, age 78, of Fredericktown, died Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Sonny, as he was known, was born April 4, 1944, in Mississippi County, MO, to the late Thomas Hobert "T.H." Cossey and Edith Adell Hicks Cossey. He grew up in Wyatt and at a young age began working on the farm with his dad until he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He returned to Mississippi County following his service and held several jobs until he went to work with Fitzgerald Marine.  He remained there a number of years until his retirement. He then moved to Fredericktown where he lived the past 16 years and had been affiliated with the Mungast Farms.  He as a former member of the Charleston V.W.F. Post 4294 and the American Legion.

Surviving is his companion and friend of many years, Jo Anne Armstrong Henry of the home in Fredericktown and her children, Greg (Mary) Brotherton; Melanie Long and Michael (Christine) Long and their children and grandchildren.

Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Perry (Patti) Cossey; Shirley James; Linda (James) Graham; Mary Lou "Moochie" Cossey; and a number of nieces and nephews. Also, a longtime family friend, Johnny Underwood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Clifton H. "Butch" Cossey, James Harlan Cossey, Jacqueline Hack, Patsy Ann Cossey and Catherine Lucille Cossey.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.  Raymond Armstrong and Charles Armstrong will officiate.

Military Graveside Honors will follow at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
