Charles E. Shands, age 78, of Charleston, died Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Born April 17, 1944, in Mississippi County, MO, to the late James Shands and Pauline Parmer Shands, he had lived in Mississippi County his entire life where he was employed in farming.    He attended the First General Baptist Church in Charleston.

Surviving is his son, Charles Michael (Pat) Shands of Charleston and his daughter, Tammy (Louis) Kirby of East Prairie; his brothers, Jimmie Shands, Sr., of East Prairie and Johnnie Paul Shands of Oran; his grandchildren, Johnathan (Ashley) Kirby, Nicholas (Britney) Kirby and Jessica (Cody Farrenburg) Kirby; Jacob Shands, Timothy Shands, Cassidy Shands, Tanisha Marie Evans, Dasha Rowe, Jordan Rowe, Sierra Evans and Derrick Evans; great grandhchildren, Hayden Givens, Braxton Kirby, Rylan Kirby, Ava-Grace Kirby, Kyle Farrenburg, Kole Farrenburg, Navy Kirby,  Lynnden Kirby and Jordan Caldwell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Diane Shands and two brothers, Eddie Shands and Tommy Joe Shands.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.  Martin Lucas will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Johnathan Kirby, Nicholas Kirby, Jacob Shands, Lee Jay Shands, Benji Shands and Shane Shands.
