Charles Eugene Turner
Charles Eugene Turner, 82, of Charleston, Missouri, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 29, 1943, in Charleston, Missouri, to the late Roma and Ruth Turner.
On April 20, 1968, Charlie married the love of his life, Dorothy Fay Harwell, in Charleston, Missouri. Together they built a loving home and shared many wonderful years of marriage.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Fay Turner, of the home; his son, Jason Turner, of the home; and his daughter, Tracy Skinner and her husband, Darrin, of Sikeston, Missouri. He was a proud grandfather to Andrew Skinner and his fiancée, Madison Livingston, and Ryan Skinner and his wife, Kaitlyn, all of Sikeston, Missouri. Charlie's greatest joy continued with the arrival of his two great-grandsons, Oakland and Dominic Skinner.
He is also survived by his sister, Janie Hargraves and her husband, Jack, of Charleston, Missouri; his brother, Freddie Turner and his wife, Dorothy, of Sikeston, Missouri; and many beloved nieces and nephews in Arizona and Florida, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Donald Turner, Voma Turner, Roma Turner, Ronnie Gene Turner, Gerald Turner, Larry Turner; and his sisters, Rita Hunsperger and Marjorie Turner.
After graduating from high school, Charlie began his working career with George Simmons, where he developed the strong work ethic that would define his life. He later retired from Medlin Equipment Company after many years of dedicated service, earning the respect and friendship of those who worked alongside him.
Music was the soundtrack of Charlie's life. As a teenager, he began playing guitar alongside his brother Larry, discovering a passion that would remain with him for more than six decades. He became an accomplished bass guitarist and lead singer, performing with several well-known local bands, including Chuck Kindred and the Reverbs, Country Caravan, the Jerry Ford Band, and The Senior All Stars. Whether on stage or gathered with family, Charlie's music brought people together and created lasting memories. His love of music was a gift he proudly passed on to his grandsons.
Charlie was also a gifted artist with remarkable attention to detail. He enjoyed creating intricate miniature models of local landmarks, churches, businesses, the courthouse, and treasured family homes. His craftsmanship preserved pieces of the community he loved and reflected both his creativity and pride in his hometown.
Above all, Charlie cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, humor, talent, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the music he shared, the artwork he created, and the family who loved him dearly.
Charlie will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Family and friends may assemble for a graveside at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston. His brother in law, Jack Hargraves, will officiate.
