Obituary

CHARLES W. TERRELL, Age 91, long time resident and prominent businessman of Sikeston, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020, with his loving family by his side.

He was born February 1, 1929, in Mississippi County, MO, to the late William D. Terrell and Floye Skinner Terrell.   He was a founding member and deacon of Trinity Gospel Church in Sikeston and served on the church board.

He was married to Joann Brumley Terrell. They celebrated 63 years together.  She preceded him in death May 14, 2015.

In addition to his love for God and his wife, Charlie's greatest joy was his two daughters and their families.

They moved to Sikeston in 1952 and purchased a limestone and fertilizer business. After his retirement, he joined Autry-Morlan Cadillac in Dexter, supervising the custom conversion vans.  He will be remembered for his involvement in the music business in Memphis and Nashville, where he was a board member of Cinnamon Records.

In the early years, Charlie was the business manager of musicians- Onie Wheeler and Ray Smith. Wheeler became a well-known Nashville songwriter and blue grass recording artist, appearing as a regular on the Grand Ole Opry.  Ray Smith was a Rock 'n Roll artist who Terrell discovered and introduced to his good friend Sam Phillips of the famed Sun Records in Memphis, where he was immediately signed to a recording contract.  Fellow Sun musicians at the time were Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Smith had several top 100 records which climbed the charts in the 1950's and 1960's; the most memorable being "Rockin' Little Angel".  Smith appeared many times on Dick Clark's American Band Stand and became a well-known entertainer in Las Vegas.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Terrell and three sisters, Evelyn Livingston, Naomi St. Cin and Lois Parrott.

Surviving are his daughters and sons in law, Janet and Albert Jackson of Paducah, KY and Lana and Bob Pinnell of Sikeston; grandsons, Travis (Crystal) Jackson of Calvert City, KY and Barry (Heather) Pinnell of Sikeston; great grandchildren, Lily Pinnell, Caylin Jackson and Coleton Jones; one brother, Jerry (Yvette) Terrell of Sikeston; two sisters, Allene Weekley of Sikeston and Sarah (Dan) Craig of Clearwater, FL.

The family wishes to thank the long-time caregiver, Janet Blackburn, who gave excellent care to both our parents for many years.

In addition, we wish to thank the owners and staff of Delta South for the professional care they provided until the day our dad went home to be with the Lord.
