Obituary

Chase Russell McClendon , lovingly known by many as "Mac," passed away at his home in Surprise, Arizona, on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the age of 35. Born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Chase grew up in Charleston, where he proudly carried on the strong and competitive spirit of the Baugh/McClendon bloodline.

From an early age, Chase was born to play ball. He grew up on the fields and courts of Southeast Missouri—playing summer baseball, Charleston Little League football, and AAU basketball in elementary school. He bled Bluejay blue and wore the jersey with pride, whether he was taking the field as quarterback, pitching from the mound, or posting up under the rim in basketball. One of his proudest moments was becoming the first pitcher in Charleston High School history to beat Sikeston.  Chase's natural talent and competitive spirit shone brightly. He had a presence that made people look up—not only for the way he played, but for the quiet strength and steady loyalty he carried throughout his life.

Chase graduated from Charleston High School in May 2009. In the summers from 2007–2009, he played for the Charleston Squirrels, helping lead the team to three consecutive state championships. In 2008, he was part of the first Squirrels team to advance to the World Series in Newark, Ohio, a memory etched deeply in his heart.

In April 2013, Chase enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, fulfilling a calling to serve his country. He completed Basic Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and advanced to F-35 Aircraft Airframe Mechanic training at Eglin Air Force Base. He was stationed with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing in Yuma, Arizona, where he served honorably and with pride.

During his time in the Marine Corps, Chase earned numerous commendations, including- The Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Certificate of Commendation (Unit Award), Certificate of Appreciation, Letters of Appreciation (8), Expert Rifle Qualification Badge (4) and the Expert Pistol Qualification Badge.

After his military service, Chase continued his work in aviation at Lockheed Martin, Flight Operations in Goodyear, Arizona, where his dedication, skill, and strong work ethic were evident to all who worked alongside him.

He is survived by his parents, Harold Ray and Connie Jeanne Baugh McClendon; his brother Charles McClendon (April); his sister Cortney Barnett (Barry); and his nieces and nephews—MacKenzie McClendon, Jadon McClendon, Chantz McClendon, Cade McClendon, Raylee Barnett, Mack Barnett, and Denni Barnett—as well as three great-nieces, one great-nephew and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eura Thomas "Dick" McClendon and Vennie Marie Switzer McClendon and his maternal grandparents, Lawrence Russell "Puddy" Baugh and Mary Marcell Reynolds Baugh.

To know Chase was to know laughter. He was a jokester, full of fun, light, and mischief—the kind of person who made any gathering better just by being in the room. He was deeply protective and loving toward his family, unwavering in his loyalty, and his big heart shone brightest in the smallest gestures. Family gatherings weren't complete without him at the Spades table, right in the middle of the shenanigans.

In Arizona, the Hole-N-One became his home-away-from-home—his favorite spot for biscuits and gravy and good conversation. Chase made friends everywhere he went, leaving behind a wide circle of people who cherished him.

Visitation will be held at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Missouri on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with graveside services immediately after at IOOF Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jadon McClendon, Chantz McClendon, Cade McClendon, Barry Barnett, Mack Barnett and Garrison Eastman.

Though Chase's life ended far too soon, the legacy he leaves—through his love, his laughter, his service, and the countless moments he shared—will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be missed more than words can express.

May Baby Boy rest in peace.
