It is with great sorrow that the family of Victor James Clayton "Clay" Eaves announces his transition to Heaven at the age of 49, on April 8, 2022. He was loved and adored by everyone he met. Clay's wife, Stephanie, and kids, Gage & Allie, were the pride and joy of his life. Though he left us far too soon, the legacy of Clay's kind spirit, faith in God, passion for sports, love of music, and zest for life will live on through them and the many others who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born March 30, 1973, in Sikeston, Missouri, to the late Victor Carlos Eaves and Sharon Kaye (Scott) Pruett, Clay was a lifelong resident of East Prairie, Missouri and man of many hobbies and talents. He could often be found at the ball field or rooting for the Cardinals. His love for baseball started at a young age and continually grew throughout his life. Upon graduating from East Prairie High School in 1991, Clay, a southpaw, received a full scholarship to pitch for Lindenwood University. After college, Clay continued playing as a member of the Men's League Softball League. It would come as no surprise that sharing and teaching his love of the game to his "Boogie", Allie, was the highlight of his baseball career. Sharing his #33, Clay served as her travel softball batting and first base coach and was her biggest fan.
Clay had the voice of an angel and in time, wasn't afraid to share it with the world. His "Bud", Gage, shares this beautiful gift in addition to his taste in music, his laid back personality, appreciation for all things Toyota, and love for his momma. Gage is the closest you'll ever get the pleasure of knowing Clay again.
Without question, the undeniable love of his life was his wife of 26 years, Stephanie, his "Pocohantas". Clay and Stephanie had a collaborative, honest, and caring relationship that was second to none. From day one, their relationship was based on their faith in God and fostered by their mutual, unwavering support and a deep love for one another that was unmatched. They were the perfect example of everything God intended a husband and wife to be.
Clay's hard work and devotion was evident in his daily commitment to providing the very best for his family. He began his work experience under his father on the river as a deckhand. Clay was a talented mechanic, which eventually led him to his career in truck driving. He served many companies over the years including Turner Dairy, Nissan, and most recently, TForce (formerly UPS Freight) where he served as a Union Steward. Additionally, Clay was a member of the Farm Bureau Insurance board.
A final gift to this world, Clay was able to contribute numerous organ donations that saved many lives and will continue to provide educational opportunities and provide a means for other families to hold onto their loved ones for another day. Clay was truly a hero.
Clay leaves behind his wife, Stephanie Dawn (Oakley) Eaves; his children, Victor Gage Eaves and Allie Kate Eaves; his sister, Katara D'Lyle Pruett; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; as well as, countless close friends he considered family.
As Clay would often say, until we meet again, "Keep your head on."
