Cuma Martha (Walls) Chism Hale, 87, formerly of Matthews, died Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Miner Nursing Center. She was born Aug. 19, 1927 at Cleveland, Arkansas to the late Orville "O.C." and Esther (Rhoades) Walls. She had been a member of the Big Ridge Baptist Church at Canalou, but more recently had attended the First Christian Church of Matthews. She was first married Sept. 22, 1945 to Harold "Slim" Chism and he preceded her in death Oct. 20, 1973. She later married William "Bill" Hale on Nov. 30, 1974 and he preceded in death May 24, 1982. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Gary Chism and Anthony William Chism and by 1 brother Linzy Walls. She is survived by her two daughters, Ginger (John) Netteler of Sikeston and Dianna (Dean) Prine of Forest City, IL; 10 grandchildren: Robin Chism of Sikeston; Shawn (Lisa) Grissom of Benton; Joann Thomason of Sikeston; Tony (Misty) Chism of East Prairie; Missy Bedwell of Malden; Sara (Dave) Avery-Williams of Sikeston; Marti (Randy) Neider of Neosho; Deanna (Brendan) Schuller of Peoria, IL; Melanie (Mike) High of Germantown Hills, IL; John Prine of Germantown Hills, IL; 20 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. 2 brothers, Doyle (Helen) Walls of Prestonburg, KY and Claudie (Dorothy) Walls of Mahomet, IL; 3 sisters: Jimmie Peachee of Fresno, CA; Wanda (Jerry) Vann of Matthews and Norma Alsup of Cape Girardeau. Also surviving are two special nephews, Dale Walls and Cameron Ellis and 1 special niece, Cheryl Vann. Visitation will be at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 11 am Thursday, June 4, until time for services at 1:00 pm. Rev. Allen Basham, pastor of Cape First Church of Sikeston will officiate and burial will follow at Matthews Community Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be, Tony Chism, grandson, Shawn Grissom, grandson, Corey Bedwell, great-grandson, Jacob Tumbleson, great-grandson, Doyne Elliott, nephew and Keith Elliott, nephew.
