William Curtis Gross

July 30, 1946 – October 2, 2026

William Curtis Gross, lovingly known as Curtis, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Born on July 30, 1946, Curtis lived a life rooted in family, love, the outdoors, and an appreciation for the simple blessings each day brought. He was a man who found joy in life’s quiet moments—especially sitting on the porch in the early morning, drinking his coffee and watching the world wake up. Those simple moments were never ordinary to Curtis; they were part of what made life beautiful.

Curtis was an avid outdoorsman who loved being outside and enjoying all that nature had to offer. More than anything, though, Curtis loved his family. His greatest joy was the people he surrounded himself with, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His nephews held a special place in his heart, and he loved them as though they were his own.

Curtis is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife, Elsie Sindle Gross; his daughters, Carol (Kevin) Jordan and Christy Story; his beloved nephews; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with many other family members and friends who were blessed to know and love him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Francis Gross; his brother, Clinton Gross; his sisters, Mildred Smith and Rachel; and his son-in-law, Kenneth Story.

Curtis leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love that will live on through his family. He taught those around him to appreciate the little things, love deeply, enjoy life, and treasure the time we are given together. Though he will be deeply missed, his family will carry his love, his stories, and the memories of all the ordinary moments that became extraordinary because he was there.

In accordance with Curtis’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston, Missouri.

A celebration of Curtis’s life will be held at the family farm at a later date where all can gather and celebrate a life well lived.

He lived simply, loved deeply, and left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to call him family.
