IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darrell Wayne
Thompson
April 19, 1956 – May 2, 2023
Darrell Wayne Thompson, born April 19, 1956, in Tucson Arizona, and passed from this life Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, California
His mother was Clara June Bateman and father, Carl Richard Thompson. Though Carl is on the birth certificate due to adoption, Darrell's real father was Avery Earl Agee II. Darrell had only a handful of interactions with his real father. Eddie and Jerry Thompson, half-brothers born to Carl and June, were raised with him and kept in contact with Darrell throughout his life. Jerry passed in December, five months before Darrell. Eddie lives in Oklahoma, disabled after a difficult battle with diabetes. Darrell's younger years were filled with constant moves making home roots difficult to grow. This would be the reason he chose to settle down in Hilmar California for 40 years of his life. Not wanting his children to experience the same.
Prior to Hilmar, Darrell spent his most of his teen and early 20's in Missouri with his mother and extended family. Particularly fond memories included times June (mother) was married to Dick Plant. He would say that it felt like a family and enjoyed camping and Christmas time. This would be the only place he remembered as home later in life. As a youth, Darrell would begin a fascination with hunting, guns, music, and motorcycles. Competition in both motorcycle racing and shooting not only gave him confidence and skills in the fields, but became lifelong hobbies. The social groups surrounding these hobbies included many close friends that will miss his wisdom, experience and companionship.
Upon arriving to California, Darrell already had a job lined up with Gemperle family farms raising chickens for egg production. He was known for his good work and willingness to take responsibly. Darrell would retire in March 2023 as a multi ranch manager, after 38 years, and purchase his first home in Missouri a month later.
Darrell was baptized in September 1966, at 10 years old. As an adult, Darrell lead music ministry in the jails and local churches. He played piano, guitar and sang. Darrell's first marriage was at the age of 20 to Donna Smith. He married at 30 to Maria Cardoza who game him two children, Joshua and Sarah. Darrell married at 35 to Donna Smith. He married at 41 to Toni Wise and adopted her daughter Nevah. Darrell married at 58 to Donna Smith. The last 4 years of life were spent with Juliet Boswell.
Darrell was a sentimental and loyal man especially when it came to his children. He will be forever loved and missed by his son Joshua Thompson and daughter Sarah Thompson.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
