DAVID PETERS

James David Peters, age 71, of Bertrand, died Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at his home in Bertrand.

Born November 1, 1948, at Sikeston, to the late John Albert Peters, Sr., and Mabel Ann Woods Peters, he was a lifelong resident of Bertrand. A retired farmer, he was employed by D & S Salvage at the time of his death. David was a deacon and treasurer of the Bertrand First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Charleston High School where he enjoyed playing football, baseball, and running track. After graduation he joined the Missouri National Guard, he played men's softball, he was a member of the Bertrand Jaycees and the Bootheel Retriever Club where he ran Labrador Retrievers. Other than his family, David enjoyed hunting and was an avid gardener who operated a small honor stand for his produce in Bertrand for a number of years. He took pride in his tomatoes and sweet corn.

On July 3, 1971, in Charleston, MO, he married Carolyn Elizabeth Stricker, who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, his son, Brent Peters and his fiancée, Tracy Roth of Benton; his daughters, Leslie Johnson and husband, Jamie, and Blaire Penrod and husband, Ian, all of East Prairie; four brothers, Mike (Janice) Peters of Charleston, Jerry (Pat) Peters of Benton, Rick Peters of Mattoon, IL, and Larry Peters of Bement; two sisters, Dianne (Danny) Babb and Donna Peters of Charleston; also, six grandchildren, Seth, Ross and Tessa Peters of Benton, Annalyn Johnson and Teddy Penrod of East Prairie and Carly Roth of Benton.

David was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert (Loretta) Peters, Jr., and Steven (Susan) Peters, and three sisters, Barbara (Larry) Miller, Dorothy Elser and Betty (Jack) Crook.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 14, 2019, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2019. Rev. George White will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Seth Peters, Ross Peters, Phillip Warren, Flipper Naile, Shawn Wente, Jim Wente and Daniel Babb.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Miller, Jerry Mann and Grover Morrow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bertrand, 104 S. Poplar St., Bertrand, MO 63823
