Diann Barnhill Volker

Feb 21, 1947 — Sep 9, 2026

Adams, Tennessee

Patricia Diann Barnhill Volker, aged 79, has entered the heavenly kingdom of our Lord. Diann passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at her home in Adams, TN, which she had always lovingly called 5 Maples. Diann was born in Cairo, Illinois, on February 21, 1947, to the late Edgar and Nadine Barnhill.

Diann had a flair for management and entrepreneurship. After attending Anniston School and graduating from Charleston High School, she worked as an Office Manager at Barnhill’s Truck Stop and Restaurant. Diann’s design skills led her to open her dream business, a florist shop that she named “Someone Cares Florist.” For many years, she delighted her customers with her floral design skills. Diann moved to Kentucky, worked in the jewelry business at the Gold Gallery, and became the Director of Admissions at Career Com Junior College. Diann had a successful career as an admissions Director. During her tenure at Career Com, she met and married a handsome man named John. She had recently said that marrying John was the best decision she had ever made. Diann retired as manager of Greenwood Apartments, where she devoted her time to building a community and making it a safe place for young professionals to live. During her time at Greenwood, Diann met many military personnel and made lifelong friendships. “Momma Diann” was so trusted by many of her military friends that she managed their finances, paid their bills, and maintained their apartments while they were on deployments.

After Diann retired, she and John moved to Five Maples in Adams, TN. Diann spent many happy hours turning her yard into a manicured showplace. Diann always showed up when those around her needed some help and encouragement. She did admit that her big vice was Hershey Candy Bars and, of course, monthly shopping excursions to Chico’s. John was asked to describe Diann in one word, and he replied, “wonderful.”

Diann is survived by her loving husband, John Volker. Diann has one son, Scott (Mindy) Suver, and a stepdaughter, Heather Volker. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother, Eddie (Mary) Barnhill, and her sister, Debbie (Mark) Crocker. Diann was preceded in death by her sister, Sandie Layton. Diann had two Grandsons, Jacob Suver and Matthew (Macey) Suver, and two step-grandsons, Justin and Matt Edwards. Diann also had many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Diann and John were members of Immaculate Conception Church in Clarksville, TN. Diann will be missed terribly, but we know she is in a heavenly realm and that her suffering has ended.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, MO. Rev. Milton Harrington, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, please donate to her favorite cause, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
