DON E. CUMMINS, age 86, formerly of Bertrand, died Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Don was born September 16, 1935 in Cordell, OK to Elmer and Nettie Belle Bruner Cummins. He served in the US Marines during the Korean Conflict.
On May 18, 1956 he married Patricia J. Haws who preceded him in death on October 25, 1991. They lived in Griffith, IN where he worked at Youngstown Steel Mill. He lived in Southeast Missouri the remaining part of his life, moving to Bertrand in 1971 where he started Cummins Construction Company. After his retirement, he dedicated his time to improving his skills as a hunter, fisherman and golfer.
Surviving are his children, Mark (Marcia) Cummins of Punta Gorda, FL and Melanie (Bob) Wissore on Marquand; also five grandchildren, Joshua Cummins, Jason Cummins, Heather Wissore Di Stafano, Heidi Wissore Grippo, and Abigail Wissore Moyer; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Vela Faye (J.E.) Ray of Bertrand. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Hiwana Hicks: and two brothers, JT and JW Cummins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 in the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 12:00 pm until the Funeral hour at 1:00 pm. Jim Davis, Chaplain with Legacy Hospice will officiate.
Military Graveside Rites will be conducted at the IOOF Cemetery followed by interment under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Moyer, Kevin Ray, Ben Ray, Randy Fain, Kelly Butler and Tim Martin.
Memorial Contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
