DONALD LEAMON ROBERTSON, age 80, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at his residence in Charleston.
Born August 14, 1936 in Perks, IL to Earl Henry and Mary Beasley Robertson, he moved with his family to southeast Missouri to farm. Following his graduation from Diehlstadt High School, he enlisted in the US Army, serving in Germany from 1955 – 1958, and remained in the Army Reserves until his discharge in 1963. Prior to working for the Mississippi County Highway Department until retirement, he farmed and logged for a number of years. A member of the Charleston United Methodist Church, he also was a member of the Order of the Arrow and served as Assistant Scout Master. His skill in wood working and construction was acknowledged as he was depended on to assist in building sets for Charleston High School musicals and his participation in setting up for the Elementary School Solar Day and working with the students in assembling bird houses. He loved to hunt and fish and was well known for his homemade yeast rolls.
On April 9, 1962, he married Ella Annette Robertson who preceded him in death on August 11, 2016.
Surviving are four children, Donna (Jeff) Stack and Jim (LaDonna) Robertson all of Charleston; Kim (Pete) Bryan of Blodgett and Dana (Garry) Lathum of Jackson.; 10 grandchildren, Brittany Stack, Samantha Stack, Delaney Stack, Krystal Hull, Kiley Dorris, Chris Bryan, Carl Gary Lathum, Lyla Lathum, Matthew Lathum and Bryce Robertson; also 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lindell Robertson, Randall Robertson; and three sisters, Hattie Mae Isom, Sue Gentry, and Dorothy Waldron.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017, at the McMikle Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Charleston, will officiate.
Missouri Military Honor Guard will conduct Graveside Rites at the IOOF Cemetery. Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Steven McClanahan, Larry Loomis, Harold Lindell Isom, Scott Harris, Bryce Robertson, Chris Bryan, and Matthew Lathum.
Honorary Pallbearer is Sergeant Carl Gary Lathum.
