Obituary
Dorothy Lee Smith Block, age 92, formerly a resident of Charleston, died Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the Anna Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Anna, IL.
She was born January 21, 1926 in Charleston to Walter Andrew and Arminta Golighty Smith. In 1945 she moved to Cairo, IL where she lived until moving to Minooka, IL in 1951. While living in Minooka she worked as caregiver for elderly individuals and assisted in maintenance for the Diocese of Joliet, IL. until her retirement. She was active in the Catholic Church most of her life until 2001 when she returned to Southern Illinois to be closer to family and attended the Ullin Baptist Church.
In 1951 she married Richard Block who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sisters, Alma Robertson of Cairo, IL and Ruth Hall of Gallatin, TN; one nephew, Mike (Martha) Henckell of Jackson; and three nieces, Cynthia Jo (Kevin) McNulty of Cairo, IL, Vicki (Bruce) Sauerbrunn of Olmsted, IL, and Janice (Lee) Hall of Gallatin, TN.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Graveside Services will be conducted at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
