Dorothy Ellen (Brewer) Ledbetter, age 90, formerly of Charleston, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10PM at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born June 11, 1928 in Charleston, MO to Harry T. and Erma M. (Cagle) Brewer, She lived most of her life in Charleston, MO where she was the first female Police Officer on the Charleston Police force. After retiring from the Police force, she moved to Sikeston, Mo. Where she worked and retired from J.C. Penney Co.. She was married to Joseph Eugene "Oscar" Ledbetter.
She was a member of the Missouri Police Officers Association, the Baptist Women's Association, The Business & Professional Club where she served as President and was named "Woman of the Year" at one of the annual banquets. She served on the Board and as President of the Mississippi County District 5 ambulance district. She was an excellent bowler and bowled in many state and out of state tournaments.
In August 1985 she took a month- long trip to The Holy Land and was re-baptized in the River Jordan in Israel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston.
She is survived by her children: Jo Ellen (Ledbetter) Milner and husband Doug of Columbia MO
Steve Ledbetter of Sikeston,MO and David Ledbetter of Cartersville, GA; 6 Grandchildren, 2 Step-Grandchildren; 13 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Step-Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchildren 2 Sisters: Katherine Donaldson Denning of Cape Girardeau and Betty True Forrest of Cape Girardeau; Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 1 sister.
Services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, MO. The family will receive guests at 1:00 PM with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM.
Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston, MO.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Andrew Francis, Stephen Ledbetter, Blake Ledbetter, Michael Ledbetter, Quinton Ledbetter, Hayden Henningsen.
