Dorothy Merle Burton, age 86, died Thursday, January 4, 2024, at her home near Sikeston.

She was born December 10, 1937, at Pembrook, MO, to the late Raymond Cook and Hallen M. Choate Cook Shaw, she had lived in Sikeston most of her life.  Dorothy was no stranger to hard work, as a young lady she worked at the Wyatt Junction, Sikeston Woodworks and as a certified nurse's aid for nursing homes.  For over 33 years she worked as the "ticket lady" at the Malco Theater in Sikeston.

Surviving are her daughters, Rayma Holstien and Lisa Burton Stone; special caregivers, Kristal Burton and Malesha Burton; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; her sister, Cathy Yoakum of Columbia, MO, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Burton; her grandchildren, Tommy Joe Burns, William Eugene Burton and James Todd Markland; and her sisters, Jeanette Blain and Connie Groves.

Private family services will be held.
