Dorothy Louise McAfee Coffer, age 96, of Charleston, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born May 17, 1926, in the Texas Bend Community of Mississippi County, MO, to the late James Patterson McAfee and Lillie Inez Brookman McAfee, she had lived in Mississippi County her entire life and was retired from the Brown Shoe Company in Charleston after 40 years of employment.   She was a longtime member of the Southside Baptist Church in Charleston.  Dorothy was a wonderful Christian lady who loved the Lord and her family.  She was always ready to use her talents of singing and playing the piano with her sisters as they sang for many events.

On March 14, 1946, she married O.V. Coffer, who preceded her in death January 25, 1999.

Surviving is her son, Herman (Kay) Coffer of Sikeston and her daughter, Fleeta (Mike) Duke of St. Charles, MO; her grandchildren, Gary (Janie) Coffer, Sheri Coffer (Charles) Seabaugh and Terri (Ken) Greenwood; her great grandchildren, Michael Coffer, Madelynne Seabaugh and Andrew Pritchett; her great great grandson, Archer Hayden; her brother, Raymond McAfee and her sister, Mary Bentley; also, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her great grandchildren, Soryne Colt Hayden and Emryss Marie Hayden; her brothers, Clarence Edward McAfee, Frank Gordon McAfee, Lloyd McAfee, Arthur McAfee and John McAfee and her sisters, Leora Mae Lange and Bessie Ruth Kersey.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 27, 2023, at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston

Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Dogwood Cemetery.   Rev. Joe McCullough, pastor of Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston, will officiate.

Interment will follow under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
