Obituary

DOROTHY LEE BRYANT DeFIELD, Age 83, a resident of Charleston, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born June 11, 1929, at Charleston, MO, to the late Harry Totts Bryant Sr. and Dorothy Lee Burnett Bryant, she was a lifelong resident of Charleston. She held a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a certificate as a Reading Specialist. She taught school in Bertrand and then Charleston until her retirement. She was instrumental in creating "Solar Day" at the DeLaney Farm near Charleston, a day where students are given the opportunity to learn and know about life outdoors. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Charleston, she had served as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Chapter C.V., P.E.O., of Charleston.


In November of 1955, she married Fred DeField, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are: one son and daughter in law, Dr. Robert and Lynda DeField of Marathon, FL; one daughter, Lee DeField Fraley of Sikeston; two grandsons, Rick Slaughter and his wife Tracy of Orlando, FL and Zach Fraley of Sikeston; one granddaughter, Andrea DeField of Miami, FL; three great grandchildren, McKenzie Slaughter of East Prairie, MO and Logan Slaughter and Makayla Slaughter both of Orlando, FL.

She was preceded in death by one son, Bryant DeField, one grandson, Scott Slaughter and one brother Harry Totts Bryant, Jr.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, 1700 E. Marshall Street in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 12, 2012. Rev. Dan Faust, pastor, will officiate. Annette Robertson will offer a Eulogy.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: George Gilmore, Marvin Gilmore, G.W. Gilmore, Bruce DeField, Gary Burnett, Jamie Pollock, Billy French and David Slaughter.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Don McClain, Floyd Stallings and Al Cope.
