Obituary

DOROTHY MARYLOU HERNDON FARIS, age 84, a resident of Charleston, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.


Born May 31, 1927, in Helca, South Dakota, to the late Charles and Pearl Wassaaner Herndon, she and her husband moved to Charleston in 1962 where they owned and operated Faris Shoe Repair and Boot Store in Charleston and Sikeston until they retired in 1994. She was a former member of the Trinity Pentecostal Church until its closing.

On December 16, 1944, she married Rev. Paul Faris, who preceded her in death on January 9, 2002.

Surviving are: one son, Donald B. Faris of Dexter; three daughters, Lela Mae Tucker, Rose Marie Bard and Paula Louise Faris Boner all of Charleston; two brothers, James Herndon of Bull Head City, AZ and Claude Herndon of Eugene, OR; one sister, Lily Mae Kirkendall of Eugene, OR; also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

One daughter, Betty Lou Faris; one brother, Charles Herndon and one sister, Lela Kimball , preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2012 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17. 2012. Rev. J.R. Woods, Rev. Michael Brewer and Rev. Gerald Penn, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Paul Lee Bard, Joey Bard, John Paul Tucker, James Lael Tucker, Serena Faris Smith and Charles Herndon.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Bonnie Scheffer, Robin Slaten, Jancie Harper and Rhonda Givens.
