Dorothy A. Pattengill, age 93, a resident of Charleston, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1921, in Campbell, MO, to the late Andrew J. Harris and Minnie Pearl Williams Harris. She was raised in Campbell, Mo, graduating from Campbell High School in 1939 as an honor student. After graduation, she worked in Malden, MO until her marriage in 1942. She then moved with her husband to Caruthersville, MO. In 1945, she moved with her husband to their new home in Charleston, MO. Dorothy was the secretary for the First Baptist Church of Charleston, later worked in the County Clerk's Office in Mississippi County, MO, and was serving as President of the Ralph Pattengill Farms, Inc. at the time of her death. She was a member of the Junior Women's Study Club, Cub Scout Leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, Sunday School teacher, Girl's Auxiliary Leader and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston.
On May 2, 1942, she married Ralph M. Pattengill, who preceded her in death on March 5, 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra P. Todd of Springfield; VA, grandsons, William Michael Todd and his wife Christy of Elkhorn, NE and Ryan C. Todd and his wife Audrey of Elkhorn, NE; four great-grandchildren, Kathleen (Katie), Michaela, Rafe and Merida Todd of Elkhorn, NE; five sisters-in-law, Alice Hopper and Evelyn Zimmerman of Cape Girardeau, MO, Ruby Hitt of Oakridge, MO, Marie Nettles of Yuma, AZ, and Janet Harris of Acworth, GA; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald L. Pattengill; a son-in-law, CDR (Ret) William Thomas Todd; four brothers, Harlan, Lindell, Wendell, and Andrew "Jack" Harris; six sisters, Alma Harris, Bessie Gardner, Ruby Watson, Velma James, Jean Borders, and Faye Jaeger; four brothers-in-law, Rex, Paul, Lawrence, and Lee Pattengill and two sisters-in-law, Gladys McCullum and Pauline Brock.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m., until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Gerald Collier. interim pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bertrand, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: Lee Pattengill, Bill Pattengill, Boyd Pattengill, Joe Pattengill, Michael Todd and Ryan Todd.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Larry James.
