Dorothy (Cannon) Shell, 88, died Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Advance Assisted Living Center. She was born Oct. 23, 1930 in Matthews to the late Hadie Wilkerson and Zola Lee (Lomax) Cannon.
She had been an OB Nurse and had also worked at the Shriners Children Hospital in St. Louis and had been a checker at several grocery stores. A life-long resident of this area she was a member of the Baptist Church and had been a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 137 in Sikeston.
On May 14, 1949 she married David E. Shell and he preceded her in death in March, 2011. She is survived by 2 sons: Randy Shell of Cocoa, Florida and Michael (Lin) Shell of Wichita, Kansas; 2 daughters: Jacqueline Keys and friend, Bob Dunkman of Advance and Kimberly (David) Flynn of Cape Girardeau and by one sister, Margaret Dock of Sikeston. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 1 sister, Liz Richards.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time for services at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 29, at Blanchard Funeral Chapel. Rev. Elijah Allen, chaplain with Crown Hospice will officiate and burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Taylor, Matt Burke, Barry Brown, Andrew Brown, Rodney Dock and Cindy Richards. Online condolences may be shared with the family at blanchardfuneral.com.
