Obituary

JOHN V. 'DUGAN' HOPPER, Age 85, of Charleston, died Monday, August 17, 2020, at the Charleston Manor.

Born May 19, 1935, to the late John and Vada Samons Hopper, he had lived in Charleston most of his life. He was the owner and operator of a service station for many years and was a former bail bondsman before his retirement.

On September 17, 1954, he married Zallie M. "Sue" Slayden, who preceded him in death on April 22, 2018.

Surviving are his grandson, Zach (Megan) Scott of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Chester Hopper of Charleston and Garry Hopper of Martin, TN; three sisters, Eloise Stevens of New Haven, MS, Carolyn Grant of Danville, IL and Marolyn Kay Hopper of Atlanta, GA; also, a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Darlene Michelle Scott, and two brothers, Travey Hopper, Corky Hopper and his sister, Patsy Slayden.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2020, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
