Obituary

E. PAUL JACKON, age 98, died Sunday, February 9, 2020, after living a full and active life of faith and service.

Born June 10, 1921 in Swinton, Missouri to the late W.E. and Mary Etta (Bell) Jackson, he moved to 34 Corner and finally to Charleston as a young man. After a brief attempt at farming, E. Paul "Action" Jackson decided to start his own business as a handy man and finally began a construction company building over 25 new homes in Charleston and remodeling several more homes and businesses, Citizen's Bank of Charleston being among them. After 25 years in the construction business, he became a Realtor with the Missouri Board of Realtors selling, appraising and managing many properties. He continued his business making his largest sale at the age of 85, and finally retiring at age 88.

Active in the community and surrounding area, he served as a member of the Charleston City Council from 1966 to 1969, serving as Mayor in 1968 – 1969. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for 50 years. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Charleston for more than 60 years where he served as adult Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Treasurer, Chairman of the Board and interim Pastor at times when the church did not have one. He designed and built the First Assembly of God church building using volunteers and paid workers. He was a charter member of the Mid-America Teen Challenge and served on its Board of Directors since its inception. In addition to his service in Charleston, he served as the President of the Sikeston Board of Realtors and as a member of the Housing Board when it was formed.

On December 22, 1944 he married Maryleen (Chapman) Jackson of Campbell, Missouri, who preceded him in death on February 2, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Zelbert Jackson of Sikeston, Harvey Jackson of East Prairie, and his sister Nellie Jackson of Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his children, Brenda Bates of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Rev. Paul D. Jackson of Cinnaminson, New Jersey. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tammy Pelletier and Cindy Gamble of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Kelly Mayberry of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, along with 10 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at First Assembly of God Church in Charleston where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
