Obituary

JAMES EDDIE "ED" GREEN, age 88, formerly of East Prairie and Charleston, died December 27, 2013 at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born October 29, 1925, in the Holloway Community in rural Mississippi County, Missouri, to the late Claude and Alberta Williams Green. Following his graduation from East Prairie High School, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served until 1948. He attended Missouri University, Oberlin College, and Iowa State, lettering in football and track. He obtained his Master of Arts degree and Ed. D in education at Michigan State University. He taught the Secondary Administration Program at Michigan State and then developed the graduate program in education at the University of Arkansas (Little Rock) until his retirement in 1982. He moved to back to Michigan,where he lived until returning to Southeast Missouri in 2008. He was an avid golfer and runner.

He was married to Joan Goodrich (his first wife), who survives of East Lansing, Michigan, and later Maggie Konkle, who survives of Albion, Michigan.

Surviving are one son, Brent (Mary) Green of Grand Rapids, MI; one daughter, Michelle (Esat)

Tas of Istanbul, Turkey; four sisters, Jane French Cross of Charleston, Claudette Hamm of Milwaukee, WI, and Cheryl (Albert) Montemayor and Penny (James) Starkle of Hot Springs, AR; four grandchildren, Emma Green, Evan Green, Ben Green, and Ellen Green; and many nieces and nephews.

One brother, Donald Barton, and one sister, Louise Barton, preceded him in death.

Memorial Services will be conducted at the IOOF Cemetery at a later date.
