Eddie Ray Shankle, Sr., affectionately known as “Uncle Eddie,” passed away peacefully at his home in Bertrand, Missouri, on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
He was born on October 15, 1949, in Cairo, Illinois, to the late Rex Martin Shankle and Ruby May English Shankle. Eddie was a 1968 graduate of Charleston High School. On June 21, 1969, he married the love of his life, Glenda Poyner, in Charleston, Missouri. They shared many devoted years together.
Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He received numerous commendations for his honorable service.
A master mechanic by trade, he was employed by FTS and Todd Hall Racing before retiring in 2015. He was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical skill, and the steady honest strength that his family leaned on. He was a faithful member of Miner Baptist Church until his health no longer allowed him to attend services.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Shankle of the home in Bertrand, Missouri; two children, Eddie Ray Shankle, Jr. (Mandy Lewis) of Fredericktown, Missouri, and Camille Shankle Peters of Bertrand, Missouri; four grandchildren, Grant Shankle of Overland, Missouri, Seth Peters of St. Louis, Missouri, Ross Peters of Trenton, Missouri, and Tessa Peters of Bertrand, Missouri; and three step-granddaughters, Alex Vogelpohl and family of Farmington, Missouri, Whitleigh Whitener and family of Fredericktown, Missouri, and Emma Lewis of Fredericktown, Missouri.
He is also survived by one brother, Bill Shankle of Charleston; two sisters, Betty Ivie of Diehlstadt and Linda Moore (Keith) of East Prairie; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley (Walter) Ivie; his sister-in-law, Martha Shankle; his nephew, Ricky Ivie and great nephew, Garrett Shankle.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Bro. Stanley Triplett will officiate.
Interment with full military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO.
