Edward Dewayne Gates, age 77, of Sikeston, died Monday, June 3, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born November 24, 1946, at Corning, AR, to the late Edward Brice Gates and Marguerite Imogene Tucker Gates, he had lived in Sikeston most of his life and was a member of the Discover Life Church (Assembly of God) in Sikeston.
Following his high school graduation, he continued his education and received training in mechanical, refrigeration and heating and cooling that would carry him throughout most of his working career. One of his proudest accomplishments was being selected by Fabick Bros. (Catepillar) of Sikeston to spend one month in Alaska working on the Yukon River. While there he serviced the equipment used to build the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
Edward was owner/operator of a commercial truck and drove from coast to coast for a couple years. He later formed E.G. Construction Company.
On June 9, 1967, he married Willie Marie Taylor, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are his daughters, Laura Ann Brewer of Martin, TN; Sherry Lynn (Mark) Cook of Cape Girardeau and Sarah Ann-Elizabeth (Lance) Flippin of Essex; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter; one brother, Kevin (Debbie) Gates of Carlyle, IL and two sisters, Patricia (Lee) Comstock of Sikeston and Carlette (Spear) Proukou of Russell, PA; also, nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Scott Gates; two infant children; his sister, Nellene Adkins and an infant brother and infant sister.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2024. Justin Pobst, pastor of Discover Life Church in Sikeston, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be Mark Cook, Lance Flippin, Darren Martin, Devon Martin, Dalton Martin and Andy Comstock.
